Provenance

Where it came from

Mosswort Bridge was first introduced in the 2007 set Lorwyn, designed to emphasize the tribal themes of the plane through the hideaway mechanic. The card was later reprinted in the 2010 Archenemy release, a multiplayer-focused expansion that pitted a single, powerful player against a team. The hideaway mechanic was created to reward players for building decks that could consistently trigger powerful effects by hitting a specific power threshold, turning a land into a potential source of significant late-game advantage.

The artwork for this iteration was provided by Jeremy Jarvis, who at the time served as a key conceptual lead for the Magic: The Gathering art team. Jarvis sought to capture the ethereal, ancient nature of Lorwyn's architecture, blending organic greenery with weathered stone to ground the card in the setting's pastoral fantasy aesthetic. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its utility in green-based decks, becoming a staple in Commander formats for its ability to cheat high-mana spells into play.
