Where it came from
Munda's Vanguard was released in 2016 as part of the promotional suite for the Magic: The Gathering set Oath of the Gatewatch. This specific card was distributed as a participation reward for participants in the set's Prerelease events, serving as a foil, alternate-art incentive to encourage local store play during the release window of the Zendikar-themed expansion.
The card features illustration by Igor Kieryluk, a frequent contributor to the franchise known for his dynamic, high-contrast fantasy style. The design emphasizes the 'Ally' creature type central to the Zendikar block, utilizing the game’s 'Support' mechanic. As a promotional variant, it is distinguished from its standard-set counterpart by its unique border treatment and the inclusion of the expansion symbol prominently displayed in the text box.
