Where it came from
Natural Order was originally printed in the 1997 Visions expansion, designed as a powerful green sorcery that enables players to sacrifice a green creature to search their library for any green creature card and put it onto the battlefield. Its inclusion in the Strixhaven Mystical Archive set in 2021 was part of a special subset of iconic instant and sorcery spells from Magic: The Gathering history, featuring unique frame treatments designed to reflect the aesthetic of the Strixhaven University setting.
The art for this specific printing was created by artist Campbell White. The design goal for the Mystical Archive cards was to evoke the feeling of ancient, magical textbooks found within the university’s library, utilizing an ornate, gilded aesthetic that stands out from standard card frames. Upon its release, this version was well-received by collectors for its striking departure from the original artwork while maintaining the high utility and historical significance that has kept the card a staple in various constructed formats for decades.
