Nevinyrral's Disk

Nevinyrral's Disk first appeared in the 1994 Alpha set, representing a pivotal moment in Magic: The Gathering history as one of the game's original board-clearing artifacts. The card's name is a tribute to Larry Niven, a renowned science fiction author and a friend of Richard Garfield, the game's creator; 'Nevinyrral' is simply 'Larry Niven' spelled backward. The card was designed to introduce a high-cost, high-impact tactical element that forces all players to reconsider their board states, embodying the game's early philosophy of unpredictable and powerful global effects.

The version from the Eternal Masters set, released in 2016, features artwork that maintains the classic, foreboding aesthetic of the original while benefiting from modern illustration techniques. The Eternal Masters set was curated specifically to provide players with access to historically significant cards that had become difficult to acquire. This specific printing is valued by collectors and players alike for its clean, updated border design and its role in preserving the legacy of one of the most iconic pieces of utility in the game's history.
