Nevinyrral's Disk first appeared in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield as a powerful, indiscriminate board-clearing artifact. The card’s name is a playful nod to Larry Niven, a famous science fiction author, spelled backward. As a staple for control decks, it was intended to serve as a 'reset button' for the battlefield, forcing players to carefully balance their resources against the threat of a total wipe.

The artwork for this particular version was created by Mark Tedin, whose surreal and often biomechanical aesthetic defined much of the game’s early visual identity. This specific iteration, part of the Pro Tour Collector Set, was produced to commemorate the competitive circuit, offering players a high-quality reproduction of a tournament-defining card. While the original illustration is widely praised for its ominous, monolithic depiction of the disk, the card itself remains one of the most iconic and feared artifacts in the game’s history.
