Where it came from
Nissa, Vastwood Seer was originally released in the 2015 set Magic Origins, serving as a dual-faced card that captured the character's narrative arc from a wandering elf to a powerful planeswalker. The card was designed as part of a cycle of five legendary creatures that transform into planeswalkers, symbolizing the moment of their 'spark' ignition. This specific version, featured in the 2017 From the Vault: Transform collection, utilizes a specialized foil treatment and unique frame layout intended for premium display, catering to players and collectors interested in the mechanical evolution of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.
The character Nissa Revane was illustrated by Wesley Burt for this printing, building upon established visual lore that emphasizes her connection to the Zendikar landscape. The design focuses on the duality of her identity, using the card's transform mechanic to represent her transition from a grounded tribal leader to an ascended conduit for nature’s magic. Upon its release, the card was well-received for its playability in competitive formats and its role in effectively bridging narrative storytelling with complex game mechanics.
