Where it came from
No More Lies is a white-blue counterspell card released in the 2024 Magic: The Gathering set Murders at Karlov Manor. The set draws heavy thematic inspiration from classic detective noir and investigative mysteries, set within the urban plane of Ravnica. Designed to mechanically represent the interrogation of a suspect, the card allows players to counter a spell unless its controller pays a mana cost, fitting the set’s focus on taxing resources and control-oriented gameplay.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized the set's signature 'Magnifying Glass' showcase frame style. Voss is well-regarded for his atmospheric and character-driven illustrations in the game, and for this piece, he aimed to capture a moment of high-stakes scrutiny consistent with the set's investigative narrative. Upon its release, the card was widely received by the competitive community as a staple for control decks due to its efficiency in the early stages of a game.
