No Mercy

No Mercy, originally released in Stronghold in 1998, was reimagined as part of the Amonkhet Invocations series during the 2017 Amonkhet set release. These Invocations were premium, Masterpiece-series cards featuring a unique, ornate border design inspired by the Egyptian-themed architecture and lore of the plane of Amonkhet. They were designed to serve as highly sought-after, visually distinct chase cards that could be found randomly in booster packs.

The aesthetic for the Amonkhet Invocations was developed by the Wizards of the Coast art department to evoke a sense of ancient, desert-dwelling divinity. The design features bold, hieroglyphic-style frames and a distinct serif typeface that departs significantly from the standard Magic: The Gathering card frame. While the cards were praised for their thematic cohesion and artistic flair, the choice of font and the heavy, metallic aesthetic initially drew mixed reactions from the player base, who found the cards difficult to read compared to traditional designs.
