When this creature enters, it connives. When it connives this way, return up to one target spell to its owner's hand. (To have a creature connive, draw a card, then discard a card. If you discarded a nonland card, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature.)

Where it came from
The Obscura Interceptor was introduced as part of the Streets of New Capenna set in 2022, a Magic: The Gathering expansion defined by a 1920s Art Deco aesthetic and a focus on five distinct crime syndicates. This particular card represents the Obscura, a faction of mages and psychics who act as the information brokers and manipulators of the city. The design was crafted to reflect the faction's signature 'connive' mechanic, which emphasizes tactical card advantage and subtle control over the game board.
The illustrative work captures the refined yet sinister nature of the Obscura, utilizing sharp lines and a color palette consistent with the set's high-society urban noir theme. As a promotional printing, this version serves as a stylistic variant for collectors and players who appreciate the game's evolving visual language. It was released to coincide with the set's launch, providing a distinct visual alternative for deck builders looking to emphasize the cinematic flair of the New Capenna setting.
