Where it came from
Raffine, Scheming Seer was released as part of the Streets of New Capenna set in 2022, serving as one of the primary legendary creatures representing the Obscura, a magically inclined crime syndicate within the art deco-inspired metropolis of New Capenna. This specific promotional version, designated by the collector number 213p, features a unique aesthetic treatment that distinguishes it from the standard set printing, reflecting the high-society, noir-influenced theme of the expansion.
The character design was created to embody the elegance and manipulation inherent to the Obscura family's leadership. Illustrators focused on a sleek, sphinx-like appearance that bridges the gap between creature fantasy and the sharp, polished fashion of the set's setting. Upon its release, the card was widely received by players for its efficiency in competitive play, particularly in formats where its ability to curate hand quality and grow in power provides a significant tactical advantage.
