Provenance

Where it came from

The Octopus token was released in 2024 as part of the Bloomburrow Commander set, a collection themed around a whimsical, woodland-inspired plane where anthropomorphic animals take center stage. Within the context of Magic: The Gathering, tokens serve as ephemeral game pieces representing creatures created by various spells or abilities during gameplay, and this specific design was commissioned to support mechanics within the expansion that involve creating creature bodies.

The visual direction for the Bloomburrow set focused on a cozy, storybook aesthetic, blending high-fantasy elements with the cozy charm of forest folk tales. The artwork for this token features an aquatic creature stylized to fit the vibrant, organic palette of the plane, designed to maintain visual consistency with the creature types introduced or featured in the Bloomburrow card pool, reflecting the set's dedication to immersive world-building.
