Where it came from
Released in December 1993 as part of Magic: The Gathering's first expansion set, Arabian Nights, Oubliette reflects the game's early thematic exploration of folklore and mythology. Designed as a common rarity black enchantment, the card was intended to provide a unique form of permanent removal by exiling a creature and all counters attached to it, sequestering the unit until the enchantment leaves play.
The card features artwork by Douglas Shuler, whose style defined much of the early aesthetic of the game.
