Where it came from
Planar Incision is a common-rarity instant card released in the 2022 Magic: The Gathering set Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. The set was designed to revisit the plane of Kamigawa centuries after its original depiction, blending traditional Japanese mythology with a high-tech cyberpunk aesthetic. Mechanically, the card allows players to exile a creature and return it to the battlefield tapped, a utility effect that emphasizes the set's focus on flickering permanents to trigger 'enters the battlefield' abilities.
The card’s artwork was illustrated by Evyn Fong, who focused on the visual language of neon-infused magical energy characteristic of the set's futuristic cities. By depicting a surgical or technological blink effect, the design reflects the core narrative tension of Neon Dynasty: the collision of ancient spirits and advanced machinery. Upon its release, the card was widely utilized in Limited formats for its versatility in protecting key creatures from removal or resetting their activated abilities.
