Provenance

Where it came from

Port Town was originally printed in the Shadows over Innistrad set in 2016, and was later reprinted as part of the Crimson Vow Commander set in 2021. Designed as a functional land card, it provides players with mana flexibility by requiring the control of a basic land type to enter untapped, reflecting the mechanics of the Innistrad plane. Its presence in the Crimson Vow Commander decks allowed players to better stabilize their mana bases while thematicizing the gothic horror aesthetic of the set.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Adam Paquette, who aimed to capture the fog-drenched, melancholic atmosphere typical of Innistrad’s coastal regions. The design prioritizes a sense of isolation and maritime decay, consistent with the visual language established for the plane’s human settlements. It was well-received by players for its utility in two-color decks and its contribution to the evocative world-building of the expansion.
