Priority Avenger

Priority Avenger was released in 2019 as part of the Mystery Booster Playtest Cards, a unique set distributed at MagicFest events. These cards were designed as an internal experiment by Wizards of the Coast, intended to simulate the chaotic, unrefined energy of early playtest material rather than finalized, polished product. They were never intended for standard sanctioned tournament play, serving instead as a whimsical look into the iterative design process that takes place behind closed doors.

The card features the signature aesthetic of the Playtest series, characterized by a stark, minimalist visual style that utilizes hand-drawn style art and raw, prototype-style templating. The design focus was to evoke the feeling of a 'paper-and-pencil' creation, stripped of the typical graphic design standards found in production-ready Magic: The Gathering cards. This intentional lack of polish was well-received by the community as a nostalgic and humorous tribute to the game's formative years.
