Where it came from
Prosper, Tome-Bound was released in 2021 as one of the oversized display commanders for the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Commander set. This set marked the first major crossover between Magic: The Gathering and the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop roleplaying system, aiming to blend the mechanics of the card game with the flavor and lore of the iconic fantasy setting. Wizards of the Coast designed these display pieces to offer players a more tactile, premium way to represent their commander on the battlefield.
The character of Prosper, a powerful warlock serving a devilish patron, was conceptualized by the design team to reflect the chaotic and treasure-focused nature of D&D warlocks. The card features dynamic, evocative artwork that leans into the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the Forgotten Realms collaboration. Upon its release, the card and its oversized variant were well-received by the Commander community for their unique synergy with exile-based mechanics and resource generation.
