Raff, Weatherlight Stalwart // Raff, Weatherlight Stalwart

Raff, Weatherlight Stalwart was released as part of the Dominaria United Art Series in 2022. These cards were specifically produced as collectible inserts for set boosters, designed to showcase the intricate digital illustrations featured on the main expansion cards without the overlaid game text. They serve as a tribute to the long-standing lore of the Weatherlight crew, a cornerstone of the Magic: The Gathering narrative since the late 1990s.

The character design for Raff Capashen in this set reflects his maturation as a key academic and tactical figure within the Tolarian Academy. The illustration, created by artist Magali Villeneuve, emphasizes a focus on scholarly discipline and leadership, moving away from his previous iterations to highlight his role as a stalwart defender of Dominaria. The art series cards are highly regarded by collectors for their clean presentation, which allows the fine details of the artist's brushwork and color palette to be fully appreciated by those interested in fantasy illustration.
