Squee, Dubious Monarch // Squee, Dubious Monarch

Squee, Dubious Monarch originated as part of the Dominaria United Art Series, a promotional set released in 2022 to accompany the Magic: The Gathering expansion of the same name. These cards are oversized, borderless representations of the set's legendary characters, designed to celebrate the rich lore and long-standing history of the plane of Dominaria, which serves as a central setting in the game's expansive narrative.

The art for this specific card was commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to highlight the character's mischievous and resilient nature. The artistic direction for the Dominaria United set aimed to evoke a sense of nostalgia for classic fantasy aesthetics while modernizing the character designs. Upon release, these art cards were well-received by collectors who prize them for their high-quality finishes and the opportunity to appreciate the detailed illustrations without the visual clutter of traditional game text.
