Rancor

Originally debuted in the Urza's Legacy expansion in 1999, Rancor quickly became one of the most iconic green enchantments in Magic: The Gathering history. Its design, which provides both a power boost and trample while returning to the hand upon destruction, was intended to give aggressive decks a persistent threat that was difficult for opponents to trade with effectively. The version found in the 2016 Planechase Anthology, featuring the card's classic illustrative style, served to reintroduce this staple to a new generation of players within the context of multiplayer-focused gameplay.

The card was illustrated by Kev Walker, whose gritty, visceral aesthetic became a hallmark of the game during the late 90s. Walker's design for Rancor captures the chaotic, primal energy of the enchantment, visually representing the card's theme of relentless, recurring aggression.
