Rancor

The Rancor card, originally debuting in the Urza's Legacy set, was included in the 1999 World Championship Decks as part of the deck piloted by Tommi Hovi. These decks were produced by Wizards of the Coast to replicate the exact card lists used by top competitors during the Magic: The Gathering World Championships, allowing players to own and experience professional-level strategies. The card itself, featuring art by Christopher Rush, is renowned for its efficient design, providing a permanent power boost and trample ability for a single green mana, which made it a staple of aggressive green decks throughout its competitive lifespan.

The design of Rancor was intended to challenge the traditional balance of enchantment cards, which were historically considered risky due to the potential for losing multiple cards if the creature was removed.
