Where it came from
Reality Scramble was originally introduced in the Commander 2018 set, designed by Wizards of the Coast as a chaotic, high-variance blue sorcery for the multiplayer Commander format. The card's mechanics reflect the 'chaos' theme of its deck, allowing players to exchange permanents for random cards from their libraries, a design choice intended to create unpredictable and memorable board states.
The card was later included in 'The List', a rotating selection of cards from Magic: The Gathering's history that appear in Set Boosters. By featuring it in this initiative, the design team highlighted the card as a notable example of the game's shift toward wild, format-specific spells that prioritize entertainment and interaction over strictly linear competitive play.
