Where it came from
Reality Shaping was released in 2016 as part of the Planechase Anthology, a compilation set designed to refresh the popular multiplayer format that uses specialized oversized cards to represent different dimensions within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. This card acts as a plane card, which fundamentally alters the game's rules for all players while it remains the active dimension, creating a high-variance, chaotic environment characteristic of the Planechase experience.
The art and design of the Planechase series were created to evoke a sense of cosmic exploration and instability. For Reality Shaping, the illustrators focused on surreal, abstract imagery intended to mirror the distortion of physical laws that occurs when a player 'planeswalks' to this location. The design was received by the community as a quintessential example of the format's intent to pull players away from traditional gameplay mechanics and into a more unpredictable, thematic struggle.
