Where it came from
Realm-Cloaked Giant // Cast Off was released in 2021 as part of the Forgotten Realms Commander set, a crossover expansion integrating the lore and aesthetic of Dungeons & Dragons into the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. The card functions as a double-faced creature, reflecting the high-fantasy narrative tropes typical of the D&D universe, where characters often hide their true power beneath unassuming disguises.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan, who utilized a cinematic, high-fantasy style to emphasize the scale and imposing nature of the giant figure revealed once the 'Cast Off' ability is triggered. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional addition to white-aligned control decks, appreciated for its synergy within the giant-creature archetype and its utility as a board-clearing spell.
