Where it came from
Reckoner Bankbuster was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. The set marked a return to the plane of Kamigawa, reimagined with a cyberpunk-inspired aesthetic that blended traditional Japanese folklore with high-tech urban environments. This specific vehicle card was designed to represent the technological advancements of the setting, serving as both a utility artifact for card draw and a formidable creature when crewed.
The card was illustrated by Titus Lunter, who captured the sleek, imposing design of the vehicle within the Neon Dynasty art style. The artwork emphasizes a bulky, mechanized aesthetic meant to evoke the feeling of a heavy-duty heist tool. Upon release, the card saw immediate competitive play across multiple Magic: The Gathering formats, noted for its efficiency and versatility, which solidified its reputation as a staple of the set's mechanical identity.
