Where it came from
Recruiter of the Guard was originally printed in the 2016 set Conspiracy: Take the Crown, serving as a highly functional white creature designed for multiplayer draft environments. The card mechanics draw inspiration from classic creature-tutoring effects, allowing players to search their library for a creature with toughness of two or less, which cemented its status as a staple for utility-focused deck archetypes in the Commander format.
The Modern Horizons 3 version, marked as collector number 266, features updated frame aesthetics consistent with the set's release in 2024. The illustration maintains the stoic, authoritative visual identity of the original soldier, capturing the character’s role as an urban sentinel. Upon its reintroduction, the card was well-received by players for its continued reliability and the accessibility it provided to a powerful mechanical tool in the competitive Magic: The Gathering ecosystem.
