Relentless Rats

Relentless Rats first appeared in the 2003 Magic: The Gathering expansion Fifth Dawn, designed as a unique mechanical creature that ignores the standard limit of four copies per deck. This Secret Lair promotional version, released as part of the 'Secret Lair Drop Series', reimagines the card with distinct, stylized artwork. The initiative behind the Secret Lair line was to provide collectors and players with premium, artist-focused iterations of classic cards that deviate from the traditional aesthetic of the game.

The artwork for this specific printing was created by artist Graham Yarrington, who moved away from the traditional grim aesthetic of the original rat swarm in favor of a more cohesive, illustrative style typical of the Secret Lair brand. Upon its release, the card was well-received by fans of the deck-building strategy it enables, as players often seek out large quantities of these specific prints to build thematic 'rat-themed' decks. Its inclusion in the set reinforced the card's status as a staple for casual formats like Commander.
