What it does
First strike
At the beginning of each end step, if a card left your graveyard this turn, create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "tap, Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")
Students working in the field for the first time learn the benefits of small, agile spirit statues over large, strong ones.

Where it came from
Relic Retriever was released in 2021 as part of the Lorehold Legacies Commander deck, an expansion set tied to the Strixhaven: School of Mages release for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to support the 'graveyard recursion' mechanics thematic to the Lorehold college, which focuses on archaeology, history, and the study of the past through magical artifacts. It serves as a utility creature that allows players to return spent artifacts to their hand, reflecting the college's scholarly pursuit of excavating ancient secrets.
The artwork was illustrated by Jason Rainville, who utilized a warm, academic palette consistent with the Lorehold aesthetic. The design highlights the character interacting with a glowing magical relic, underscoring the card's function as a retrieval specialist. Upon release, it was well-received by the Commander community for its ability to generate recurring value in artifact-heavy strategies, becoming a staple inclusion for players looking to optimize their graveyard interaction.
