Rootbound Crag was originally introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game in the Magic 2010 core set and was subsequently reprinted in Magic 2011 as collector number 227. It belongs to a cycle of lands known as the 'check lands' or 'buddy lands,' which enter the battlefield tapped unless the player controls a land that shares one of the two colors the card produces.
