Rootha, Mercurial Artist // Rootha, Mercurial Artist

Rootha, Mercurial Artist was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Art Series, a specialized subset of cards featuring full-art illustrations without game text. This series was designed to showcase the work of individual artists commissioned for the set, providing a gallery-style presentation of the card's visual identity within the Strixhaven multiverse. The set focuses on the Prismari College, the school of elemental arts, where Rootha is portrayed as a talented but tempestuous mage.

The artwork for this specific card was created by artist Igor Kieryluk. His vision for Rootha emphasizes the volatile and kinetic nature of her magic, using sweeping lines and vibrant lighting to capture a moment of creative discharge. Upon its release, the card was well-received by collectors for its clean, frame-less aesthetic, which allowed the intricate details of the character's spellcasting process to serve as the sole focus of the piece.
