Provenance

Where it came from

The Vortex Runner card from the Strixhaven Art Series was released in 2021 as part of a promotional initiative for the Magic: The Gathering expansion set, Strixhaven: School of Mages. These cards were distributed within Art Series booster packs, which were designed specifically for collectors and fans of the game's illustration rather than traditional competitive play.

The artwork for this piece was created by artist Mathias Kollros, who was commissioned to visualize the aesthetic of the Prismari college, known for its emphasis on elemental magic and creative expression. The design reflects the high-fantasy, academic atmosphere of the Strixhaven setting, focusing on a visually striking, painterly representation of the creature that prioritizes artistic composition and thematic immersion.
