Where it came from
Sacred Foundry was originally released in the 2005 Ravnica: City of Guilds set as part of the original shock land cycle, designed by the Magic: The Gathering R&D team to provide efficient mana fixing for multicolored decks. The card was created to represent the Boros Legion's headquarters, a militaristic guild centered on justice and fire, necessitating a land that could tap for either red or white mana at the cost of two life.
This version, issued in the 2013 Gatecrash set and illustrated by artist John Avon, updated the aesthetic to fit the return to the plane of Ravnica.
