Sacred Fire

Sacred Fire was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on the gothic horror tropes of the plane of Innistrad, specifically emphasizing the struggle between day and night cycles, as well as the return of classic horror themes like werewolves and spirit rituals. This specific card was designed as a thematic instant that bridges the Boros color identity of red and white, reflecting the set's mechanical focus on reactive spells that reward players for managing combat interactions.

The illustration for Sacred Fire was created by artist Fajareka Setiawan, whose work is frequently featured across modern Magic: The Gathering sets. In keeping with the set's artistic direction, the design visualizes the holy flame of the Avacynian faith acting as a source of both defense and retaliation. Upon its release, the card was received as a standard utility piece in Limited formats, praised for its versatility in removing smaller threats while providing a modest life buffer to the player.
