Provenance

Where it came from

Sandstone Oracle was first introduced in the Commander 2015 product line, specifically within the Plunder the Graves deck. It was designed as a high-mana cost creature that provides players with a way to refill their hand, functioning as a powerful draw engine in the multiplayer-focused Commander format. The card's mechanics were built around the 'Experience' and graveyard-centric themes common to that year's releases, offering a strategic advantage to players who have exhausted their resources.

The card features artwork by Dan Dos Santos, who captured the towering, ancient aesthetic of the construct. His design emphasizes the oracle's connection to stone and elemental magic, fitting into the high-fantasy visual language of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. Following its debut, the card was reprinted in the 2018 Commander Anthology Volume II to maintain accessibility for players and collectors, solidifying its role as a functional staple in casual and competitive Commander decks alike.
