Sarulf, Realm Eater // Sarulf, Realm Eater

The Sarulf, Realm Eater card from the Kaldheim Art Series was released in 2021 as part of a specialized promotional set designed to showcase the vivid, high-fantasy illustrations commissioned for the Kaldheim expansion. This series was produced to highlight the creative work of artists who contribute to the Magic: The Gathering aesthetic, presenting the artwork on larger, borderless cards without the standard game frames or text boxes that usually occupy the foreground.

The illustration for Sarulf was created by artist Jesper Ejsing, a long-time contributor to the game known for his dynamic and expressive creature designs. Ejsing intended to capture the terrifying, world-devouring nature of the lupine horror from Norse mythology, utilizing a palette of stark shadows and aggressive, sweeping lines. The piece was well-received by the community for its ability to convey a sense of impending mythological doom, standing out as a central piece of the set's aesthetic identity.
