Savannah

Savannah was released as part of the Limited Edition Alpha set in 1993, representing one of the original dual lands for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Created by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast, these lands were designed to provide essential color-fixing mechanics for early deck construction, allowing players to tap the card for either green or white mana. The card is grounded in the high-fantasy aesthetic established by the game's initial illustrators, who sought to evoke a sense of expansive, elemental terrain.

The artwork for Savannah was commissioned from artist Justin Hampton, whose illustration captures the open, grassy plains of the game's setting. As a member of the rare 'dual land' cycle, Savannah became a foundational component of competitive play during the game's infancy. Its scarcity and utility have sustained its status as a cornerstone of the Limited Edition Alpha collection, which remains the primary benchmark for rarity and historical significance among enthusiasts of the game.
