Savannah

The Savannah card, originally a centerpiece of the Magic: The Gathering Alpha set released in 1993, holds a storied place in the game's history as part of the initial cycle of dual lands. Designed by Richard Garfield to provide players with flexible mana sources by tapping for either green or white, the card was intended to bridge color identities in early deck-building strategies. The original artwork by Rob Alexander helped define the game's aesthetic, offering a serene, grounded depiction of a savanna that provided a visual respite from more aggressive spell illustrations.

This specific iteration originates from the 30th Anniversary Edition, a commemorative release produced in 2022 to celebrate three decades of the game. While these cards maintain the iconic visual identity established by Alexander's original illustration, they were printed with a distinct back design to differentiate them from tournament-legal cards. The set serves as a retrospective tribute for collectors, reprinting highly sought-after staples from the game's formative years to honor the legacy and enduring influence of the original dual lands on modern card game design.
