Scute Mob

Scute Mob was originally introduced as a rare creature card in the Conflux expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2009. The design concept focuses on the mechanics of growth, specifically rewarding the player for reaching a land threshold of five or more lands. By doubling its own power and toughness at the beginning of each upkeep, the card embodies a 'go-wide' or 'go-tall' threat that requires immediate removal from an opponent, securing its place as a staple in green-aligned creature decks.

The artwork was commissioned from the duo Zoltan Boros and Gabor Szikszai, who were prolific contributors to the game throughout the mid-2000s. Their depiction captures a massive, insect-like creature formed from a swarm of smaller scutes, visually reinforcing the card's ability to scale exponentially. The piece was well-received for its sense of scale and dynamism, and the card was later included in the Commander 2018 product line to provide players with a reliable, thematic threat for multiplayer formats.
