Season of Loss // Season of Loss

The Season of Loss Art Series card was released in 2024 as part of the Bloomburrow expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These cards were specifically produced as collectible inserts within collector boosters, intended to showcase the intricate fantasy illustrations of the set without the mechanical gameplay elements of traditional cards. The set itself draws heavy inspiration from cozy, animal-centric folklore and storybook aesthetics, marking a distinct thematic departure from the typical high-fantasy tone of the game.

The artwork for this specific piece was crafted by artist Campbell White. The design objective was to capture the melancholy and seasonal transition central to the Bloomburrow narrative, utilizing warm, autumnal color palettes and expressive, anthropomorphic character work. Upon its release, the card was well-received by collectors who value the high-resolution, borderless art presentation, viewing it as a tangible celebration of the collaborative effort between the creative team at Wizards of the Coast and the commissioned fantasy illustrators.
