Sejiri Refuge

Sejiri Refuge was originally designed as part of the Zendikar expansion in 2009, reflecting that set's focus on land-based mechanics and the exploration of a dangerous, adventure-filled plane. The card was created to provide players with a utility land that offered both mana flexibility and a modest life-gain effect, balancing its drawback of entering the battlefield tapped. This specific printing comes from the Kaldheim Commander set, which reissued various cards from throughout Magic: The Gathering's history to support new, pre-constructed deck themes.

The artwork for Sejiri Refuge was illustrated by Anthony Francisco, who sought to capture the frigid, crystalline aesthetic of Zendiri's icy reaches. The design was intended to evoke a sense of sanctuary amidst a harsh, hostile environment. While the card is a functional common-rarity land, it has been well-regarded by players for its role in budget-conscious deck building, where the combination of dual-color mana production and life gain provides reliable stabilization in early game play.
