Serum Visions

Serum Visions was first released in 2004 as part of the Fifth Dawn expansion for Magic: The Gathering, the third set in the Mirrodin block. The card was designed to function as a powerful cantrip, allowing players to manipulate the top of their library and draw a card, which solidified its place in the game's competitive ecosystem for years to come. It emerged during a period where the Mirrodin block focused heavily on artifact-based mechanics and complex interactions between cards.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Greg Staples, who captured the ethereal and somewhat unsettling aesthetic of the Mirrodin setting. Staples employed a clean, focused style that emphasizes the mystical nature of the spell, helping the card become a staple of blue-aligned decks across multiple constructed formats. Its long-term popularity stems from its efficiency and the critical role it plays in setting up future draws, making it a recurring presence in deck lists throughout the game's history.
