Where it came from
Serum Visions was originally introduced in the 2004 expansion Fifth Dawn for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This particular printing originates from the 2004 World Championship Decks, a boxed set of preconstructed decks released by Wizards of the Coast. These decks were exact replicas of the card lists used by the top eight finalists at the 2004 World Championships, serving as both a memento of the event and a way for players to experiment with high-level competitive strategies.
The card features artwork by Aleksi Briclot, whose distinct illustrative style captures the ethereal, arcane nature of the spell. In the context of the game, Serum Visions is a staple blue cantrip designed to offer card selection through the scry mechanic, allowing players to manipulate the top of their library. Within the competitive community, the World Championship printing is notable for its gold-bordered edges and the signature of the professional player printed on the card face, which intentionally differentiates these versions from standard tournament-legal cards.
