Shadows Over Innistrad Checklist 1

The Shadows over Innistrad Checklist card was introduced by Wizards of the Coast in 2016 as a functional utility piece for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was specifically designed to facilitate the use of double-faced cards, which were a central mechanic of the Innistrad block. Because double-faced cards have a different card back than the standard Magic card, they cannot be played unsleeved in a deck; the checklist serves as a proxy that players mark to represent their hidden double-faced card while in the library or hand.

The design of the checklist card is strictly utilitarian, featuring a list of all double-faced cards available in the Shadows over Innistrad set. It allows players to designate which card they are playing by checking a box, maintaining the integrity of the game without requiring opaque sleeves that might be considered marked. The card was illustrated by internal design teams to match the Gothic horror aesthetic of the Innistrad plane, ensuring that even this functional component contributed to the immersive atmospheric narrative of the set.
