Where it came from
Shaman of Spring was released in the Magic 2015 core set as an uncommon creature card designed for the green color identity. Within the game's mechanics, the card serves as a utility creature, allowing players to draw a card upon entering the battlefield. This design reflects the long-standing philosophy of providing green decks with card advantage, typically tied to creature-based themes rather than traditional sorcery or instant spells.
The card features artwork by Lake Hurwitz, who chose a stylistic approach that emphasizes the mystical and seasonal attributes of the Shaman. The illustration captures a forest guardian figure, aligning with the core set's focus on foundational elements of the game. Upon its debut, the card was received as a solid inclusion for limited formats, appreciated by players for its reliable utility and straightforward synergy within aggressive or mid-range creature decks.
