Where it came from
Show of Confidence is an instant card released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Strixhaven: School of Mages. The set is themed around the magical university of Strixhaven, which is divided into five colleges representing different combinations of mana colors. This card is associated with the Silverquill College, known for its focus on eloquence, manipulation, and the power of the written and spoken word.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who captured the high-stakes, dramatic nature of a Silverquill debate. Design-wise, the card utilizes the 'Magecraft' mechanic, a signature ability of the set that triggers whenever a player casts or copies an instant or sorcery spell. This design encourages a specific style of play where multiple low-cost spells are chained together to create a powerful, exponential effect, reflecting the card's theme of gathering momentum through persuasive rhetoric.
