Where it came from
Show of Valor was released in the Core Set 2020 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set designed to provide a foundational experience for both new and veteran players. The card functions as an instant within the game's mechanics, intended to offer a protective and reactive tactical option for players utilizing white mana. Its release within a core set reflects the game's tradition of reintroducing fundamental card types that reinforce the color pie's inherent philosophies, focusing on defensive resilience and combat efficiency.
The artwork for the card was created by artist Daarken, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering universe. The illustration depicts a moment of divine or martial intervention, aiming to capture the essence of a heroic stand. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional utility piece in limited formats, valued for its ability to save creatures from destruction while providing a temporary boost in power, fitting neatly into the archetype of white combat trick cards.
