Where it came from
Sigarda's Aid was originally released in 2016 as part of the Eldritch Moon expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This specific card, numbered 41p, was issued as a promotional variant, distinguished by the expansion's symbol and a unique foil treatment common to the promotional releases of that era. The card represents the angelic protector Sigarda and reflects the set's thematic focus on the desperate defense of the plane of Innistrad against corruption.
The art was commissioned to capture the protective nature of Sigarda, emphasizing her role in bolstering the resilience of those fighting alongside her. Designed to facilitate aggressive playstyles, the card gained significant mechanical relevance in eternal formats like Modern and Commander, where its ability to cheat equipment and aura costs onto the battlefield remains a cornerstone of specific equipment-focused deck archetypes.
