Where it came from
Citadel Siege first appeared in the Fate Reforged expansion, designed to showcase the strategic flexibility of the Abzan Houses on the plane of Tarkir. The card was created as a versatile enchantment, offering players the choice between reinforcing their own creatures during combat or neutralizing an opponent’s threats, reflecting the tactical philosophy of the faction's resilience.
The reprint in the Midnight Hunt Commander set retains the original functional design while being integrated into the distinct, gothic-horror aesthetic of the Innistrad plane. The artwork, handled by Magali Villeneuve, captures the atmospheric tension central to the Midnight Hunt narrative, emphasizing a sense of defensive preparation and vigilance that aligns with the card's mechanical utility.
