Signpost Scarecrow

Signpost Scarecrow was released in 2020 as part of the Jumpstart set, a product designed to facilitate quick, accessible gameplay by allowing players to combine two pre-constructed packs into a functional deck. Within the context of Magic: The Gathering, the card serves as a utility creature, offering color-fixing capabilities that reflect the set's emphasis on diverse, multicolored strategies. It draws upon the visual language of traditional scarecrows, repurposing the folklore trope as a mechanical guardian that helps players stabilize their mana base during the early turns of a game.

The card's design features artwork by Zezhou Chen, who rendered the scarecrow with a weathered, functional aesthetic consistent with the rustic theme of the plane it represents. As a common-rarity artifact creature, the piece was crafted to be a reliable, low-cost engine for limited play environments. Upon its release, it was well-received by the player base for its versatility and its ability to provide consistent value across a variety of deck archetypes in both Jumpstart and subsequent limited formats.
