Where it came from
Silverfur Partisan was released in 2016 as part of the Shadows over Innistrad expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set on the gothic horror-inspired plane of Innistrad, the card reflects the set's thematic focus on werewolf transformations and the shifting dynamics between humans and monsters. Mechanically, it was designed to support tribal synergy for Wolf and Werewolf decks, rewarding players for protecting their pack-focused creatures.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose work often defines the moody, atmospheric aesthetic of the Innistrad setting. Kieryluk’s depiction captures the agile, feral nature of the Silverfur Partisan, emphasizing the tactical role of the creature within the game's broader lore. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its impact on competitive Constructed formats, where it provided a necessary defensive and offensive boost to creature-heavy strategies.
