Provenance

Where it came from

Sindbad was originally printed in the Arabian Nights expansion of 1993, the first set released for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed to evoke the flavor of Middle Eastern folklore, fitting into the thematic framework of the set, which drew inspiration from the Tales of the Thousand and One Nights. The original illustration by Dan Frazier captured the whimsical, narrative-driven aesthetic of early Magic art.

The 2006 Time Spiral set featured a subset known as Timeshifted cards, which reprinted iconic or notable cards from the game's history with the original art and a distinct purple expansion symbol. Sindbad was included as card number 31 in this set to honor the game's origins, offering players a chance to obtain a classic piece of card design that reflected the mechanics and visual style prevalent during the mid-nineties.
